A four-day week? I’d suggest a 10-day one | Brief letters

Instead of a four-day working week (‘Bring it on!’: growing support in England for four-day week in schools, 9 December), could we consider a 10-day week? Work seven days and have three days off. The economy gets an extra day’s production out of the workforce, and workers enjoy a long weekend every weekend. There would be three weeks in a 30-day month with a few days to spare, much as it is now. What about naming the three extra weekdays? Think of the fun a national competition would bring. Just what we need – a distraction.

You couldn’t make it up. You quote Donald Trump as saying “But we always take people from Somalia, places that are a disaster, right? … The only thing they’re good at is going after ships” (Trump rails on affordability ‘hoax’ and flings racist attacks in rally-style speech, 10 December) on the very day that US troops seized a tanker of Venezuelan oil. Piracy is piracy, no matter who does it.

Renewed investment in our once-thriving music services would help this apparent problem of “writing fatigue” (Some GCSEs and A-levels in England could be taken on laptops by 2030, Ofqual says, 11 December). A few scales and arpeggios never hurt anyone.
