BBC Wants To Subpoena Trump’s Kids Over $10B Defamation Lawsuit

The BBC has asked the U.S. District Court in the Southern District of Florida to subpoena Donald Trump Jr., Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, as it seeks to defend itself from a $10 billion defamation lawsuit brought by President Donald Trump over a documentary he believes falsely portrayed his Jan. 6, 2021, coup attempt.

Lawyers representing the broadcaster said Friday they've repeatedly attempted to subpoena the trio through other methods, only to be rebuffed by the Secret Service.

At issue are statements Trump made to the crowd on Jan. 6 ahead of the violent insurrection. Trump claims the BBC "put terrible words in my mouth" when it quoted him calling on his supporters to "fight like hell," while omitting that he also said he would walk with them "to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard."

Trump Jr., Ivanka and Kushner were all with Trump that day, notes the BBC, making them important witnesses.

Last week, President Trump backpedaled and withdrew allegations the BBC had damaged his brand and businesses after the network demanded he disclose his financial records.
