President Donald Trump’s own supporters are starting to blame him for high prices, according to a new poll.
In a Politico survey conducted by Public First, 37% of people who backed Trump in 2024 reported that the cost of living is “the worst” they “can ever remember it being,” while 53% of Kamala Harris voters said the same.

Meanwhile, 25% of Trump voters polled said they believe the president is either mostly or entirely responsible for higher prices.
The White House told Politico that Americans should be blaming Trump’s predecessor, President Joe Biden, for rising costs and an unsteady job market.

“Cleaning up Joe Biden’s economic disaster has been a Day One priority for President Trump” White House spokesperson Kush Desai said, adding that the president is “just getting started implementing the policies that created historic economic prosperity in his first term.”
“Americans can rest assured that the best is yet to come,” Desai added.

While Trump’s administration said its plan to pump up the economy is already in motion, it’s unclear if the president is actually taking Americans’ financial concerns seriously.
He called the affordability crisis a “scam” and a Democrat-crafted “con-job” during a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, where he told reporters the word “affordability” “doesn’t mean anything to anybody.”
