DOJ says it has found more than a million additional Epstein documents

The Justice Department on Wednesday said it had uncovered more than a million documents potentially related to the Jeffrey Epstein case and will need more time to fulfill the release of files ordered by Congress.

In a post to X, the Justice Department said it received the documents from the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York and the FBI — but it may take “a few more weeks” before they can be processed and released to the public in accordance with the Epstein Files Transparency Act.

“We have lawyers working around the clock to review and make the legally required redactions to protect victims, and we will release the documents as soon as possible,” the DOJ said. “Due to the mass volume of material, this process may take a few more weeks. The Department will continue to fully comply with federal law and President Trump’s direction to release the files.”

The Justice Department did not immediately respond to a request for additional details about the newly discovered files.

The announcement comes as the department faces ongoing criticism for its delay in releasing the entirety of its files on the Epstein case and his alleged co-conspirators. The convicted sex offender died by suicide in 2019 in jail. Co-conspirator Ghislaine Maxwell is serving a 20-year prison sentence for sex trafficking and other charges.

The DOJ was forced by Congress to release its files related to Epstein, and the department has been rolling out batches of documents, many featuring extensive redactions.

The heavy redactions have drawn criticism from Democratic and Republican lawmakers, with some accusing the department of concealing information to protect President Donald Trump and his associates.

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said more documents would be made public in the coming weeks but attributed the delay to the DOJ’s efforts to protect “every single victim.”
