Frey, Mamdani to meet in NYC

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey is expected to meet with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani on Thursday afternoon, according to a person close to Frey.

The pair are expected to discuss how mayors of blue cities can stand up to President Donald Trump, the person added.

Mamdani confirmed the meeting, adding that he “look[s] forward to getting to know him, and also to speaking about the importance of protecting each one of our residents, including the immigrants who call both our cities home.”

Frey’s New York City visit comes as border czar Tom Homan announced that Trump’s immigration crackdown in the state was coming to an end. Homan told reporters Thursday morning he had “proposed, and President Trump has concurred, that this surge operation conclude,” citing arrests of “public safety threats” in coordination with state officials.

Frey celebrated the draw down in a post on X, “They thought they could break us, but a love for our neighbors and a resolve to endure can outlast an occupation.”
