Jim Jordan Claims ICE Agents Are ‘Doing The Lord’s Work’

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) said that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents are “doing the Lord’s work” amid widespread scrutiny over the agency’s aggressive policies under the second Trump administration.

“I think the ICE agents are doing the Lord’s work. They’re doing what the president promised the American people he was going to do when he ran for the job and was elected in a big way,” Jordan said Sunday while appearing on CNN’s “State of the Union.

Noting that the agents are “doing their duty,” Jordan called the “pushback” ICE has been getting “interesting.”

“So, I think they’re doing their duty. What’s interesting is the pushback they’re getting in these sanctuary jurisdictions and these ICE-free zones, where many times they’re coming to — they’ve sent a detainer to the facility, and they will release the person to the streets, the bad guy to the streets, and won’t work with ICE at all,” he told host Dana Bash.

Since taking office in January, Trump has made sweeping mass deportations, which he repeatedly promised during his campaign.

In June, Trump ordered federal immigration officials to prioritize deportations from Democratic-run cities after protests ensued in major cities in response to his administration’s immigration policies.

In a June 15 Truth Social post, the president directed ICE officials “to do all in their power to achieve the very important goal of delivering the single largest Mass Deportation Program in History.”

He added that to reach the goal, officials ”must expand efforts to detain and deport Illegal Aliens in America’s largest Cities, such as Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York, where Millions upon Millions of Illegal Aliens reside.”

Trump went on to accuse “such cities” of being “the core of the Democrat Power Center” where they use illegal aliens to “cheat in Elections” and “rob good paying Jobs and Benefits from Hardworking American Citizens.”

Trump’s post came weeks after Stephen Miller, the Trump-appointed White House deputy chief of staff, brought forth a new target for ICE officials to arrest a minimum of 3,000 immigrants per day. The number significantly increased from the 650-a-day goal during the first five months of Trump’s second term.

The agency’s controversial tactics and ongoing, aggressive arrests have sparked concerns from advocates for immigrants, American citizens and celebrity figures.
