Karen Pence Snubs Donald Trump At Jimmy Carter's Funeral

Former second lady Karen Pence appeared to snub President-elect Donald Trump on Thursday at former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral.

Video shows Trump shaking hands with former Vice President Al Gore and then his own former vice president, Mike Pence. Both men stand to shake Trump’s hand, but Karen Pence remains seated. As Trump pauses in front of Karen Pence, she looks down. Mike Pence and former first lady Melania Trump also shake hands, but Karen Pence appears to avoid Melania Trump, as well.

Carter’s funeral at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., marks the first time Trump and his former vice president have been together publicly since Trump incited a mob of his supporters on Jan. 6, 2021, during the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

Former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) said during a House committee hearing on the insurrection that Trump welcomed chants from his supporters calling for Mike Pence to be hanged after Pence refused to stop the certification of the results of the 2020 presidential election. According to testimony from former Trump advisers, Trump said, “Maybe our supporters have the right idea. Mike Pence deserves it.” Trump has denied ever saying that.

In 2023, Karen Pence said that she doesn’t think anybody “who puts himself above the Constitution” should be the president.
