Ron DeSantis Taps Florida AG Ashley Moody To Fill Marco Rubio’s Senate Seat

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Thursday tapped his state’s attorney general, Ashley Moody, to replace Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) when he leaves his office to become secretary of state to President-elect Donald Trump.

DeSantis announced his decision at a press conference in Orlando, joined by Moody.

“I’m ready to show up and fight for this nation and fight for President Trump to deliver the America First agenda on day one,” she said at the event.

Moody, who has been Florida’s attorney general since 2019, will now serve out the rest of Rubio’s Senate term, which goes through 2026.

DeSantis announced that his chief of staff, James Uthmeier, will replace Moody as the state’s next attorney general.

Uthmeier “is kind of like Ashley,” DeSantis told reporters. “He’s proven himself in these fights, and I think [he’s] got big shoes to fill, but I think he’ll do a good job doing that.”
