Trump Says U.S. Will Control Greenland Before His Presidency Is Over: 'Make That Bet'

Weeks after President Donald Trump renewed his demand that the United States get control over Greenland, he assured a right-wing TV host that it's a safe bet it will happen.

"You're also still looking at Greenland," "Real America's Voice" host Steve Gruber asked Trump by phone Friday. "I made a prediction on this program that before you left office, that Greenland would be under our operational control. It's still incredibly important to defending the Western hemisphere, isn't it?"

"Yeah, you'll be right," Trump answered. "No, they wanna do something very important. Greenland's important, you know, from our standpoint. Not from their standpoint. But from our standpoint. Uh, yeah, you should make that bet, actually."

Trump has long floated taking control of Greenland, a semi-autonomous territory of Denmark, asserting that the U.S. needs it for strategic defense purposes. Though at one point he said he wouldn't rule out using force to take Greenland, he later said he wouldn't use force.

The president had been relatively quiet about his designs on Greenland over the past few months, but re-upped the topic at the NATO summit last month, saying that Greenland "should be controlled by the United States, not by Denmark."
