Californians will make the call about a major redistricting initiative prompted by Republican efforts in Texas to redraw district lines in order to gain more GOP seats in Congress.
Proposition 50, which is being pushed hard by Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), would pause the use of maps drawn by the nonpartisan California Citizens Redistricting Commission until 2031, and allow for new maps to be used that would help secure five additional Democratic seats in Congress.
